On a website entirely dedicated to the moon, a blog about the Mayan cuisine can't be missed. The classic Maya culture experienced its peak between 200 BC and 250 BC in what is now a jungle, in southern Mexico. There are still two later periods in which the Mayans resurfaced in the region, but around 900 A.D. they had disappeared in mysterious ways. Even though the scientists don't agree. There is even mention of Maya in a war in Central America that takes place from 1960 to 1996.
The most well-known are the classic Mayans of course by the Tzolkin, better known as the Mayan calendar which ended on December 21, 2012, after which the world would perish. Probably mainly by misinterpreting the Mayakalender, also called the Thirteen Moons Calendar, in modern times, because we are still there. The Mayan culture is very special and of very high level. The gigantic structures they left behind and from the middle of 17e A century are discovered in the jungle, dazzling researchers and interested people. It turns out these temples were used to monitor the universe. Because despite their lunar calendar, the Mayans were extremely interested in the sun and Venus, which they saw as a sister planet of the sun. The Mayan priests were not so much interested in their stand as in the hair cycle, which lasts on average 584 years! Moreover, the Maya appeared to have been able to look at the galaxies from a sort of Archimedes point, as if they already had a Hubble telescope. In addition to a script that never fully developed, but already contained 800 characters, the Mayan scripts were extremely good and accurate calculators.
Back to the moon. Next to Jade there was another sacred stone, Obsedian, rocks that we encountered before in my blog Moon rocks. The forms and movements of the moon also form the basis for the Tzolkin, the calendar used by the Mayans for religious practices and rituals. This calendar includes 260 days, each having a special influence and meaning on life here on earth.
Of course, this is only a short description of a hugely complex and progressive high culture, but there is a lot of information about the Mayan people on the internet.
